The report draws on the latest annual data from the Office for National Statistics and reflects ongoing structural change across the sector, including a widening divide between textiles and apparel, and increasing geographic concentration.

It examines industry metrics including turnover, output, exports, production trends and retail sales prices, alongside business demography, employment and productivity. Further sections explore investment patterns, international trade flows, export performance by product and the role of education in supporting future skills and innovation.

Recent data shows stronger activity in textile manufacturing and wholesale, while retail clothing remains the most stable high value segment. However, there are signs of a slowdown in apparel manufacturing and parts of retail, alongside continued long term shifts in the structure of the industry.
