Work placement opportunities wanted: Could your business help shape the next generation of textile and fashion talent?

UKFT is encouraging businesses across the UK textile, fashion and apparel industries to consider offering work placements to students studying BSc Textile Innovation and Sustainability at the University of Leeds, starting in October 2027.

These students will have completed their second year of study and developed a strong foundation of industry-relevant knowledge and technical skills, including:

‍

  • Textile and fabric manufacturing technologies
  • Textile coloration, finishing and performance testing
  • Quality assurance and process improvement
  • Garment manufacturing and product development
  • Sustainable manufacturing and circular economy principles
  • Digital textile technologies and innovation

‍

Why offer a placement?

‍

‍

Hosting a placement student is an opportunity to bring fresh perspectives, emerging technical knowledge and new ideas into your business, while helping to develop the skilled workforce our industry needs for the future.

‍

Students can contribute to meaningful projects across manufacturing, product development, quality control, sustainability, research and innovation, gaining valuable practical experience along the way.

‍

Placements form part of the students' 2027/28 academic year, with students completing 1,200 hours of work-based experience. There may also be opportunities for continued collaboration through their final-year research projects.

‍

‍

Could your company offer a placement opportunity?

‍

‍

Whether you're a textile manufacturer, fashion business, technical textiles specialist or part of the wider supply chain, we'd love to hear from you.
