Have your say: UK consultations on POPs and PFAS

The UK Government has launched two consultations on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and long-chain PFAS substances, with potential implications for the textile and apparel sector.

POPs Regulation consultation (open until 13 May 2026)

DEFRA (the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) is consulting on proposed amendments to the UK POPs Regulation, including the addition of five substances to Annex I and updates to existing restrictions.

PFAS indicative list – call for comments

DEFRA has published a call for comments on a revised indicative list for LC-PFCAs, PFOA and PFHxS, to inform the UK’s position ahead of upcoming Stockholm Convention discussions.

These measures may affect coatings, water-repellent finishes, dyes and other processing chemicals. UKFT is monitoring both and encourages members to assess potential impacts.
