UKFT update: How to correctly use the TENCEL™, LENZING ™ and ECOVERO™ trademarks

01/09/2025

If you are using TENCEL™, LENZING ™ and ECOVERO™ branded fibres in your products it is important to label and market them correctly to avoid trademark misuse.

These are registered trademarks owned by Lenzing AG, referring to specific branded types of Lyocell, Modal and Viscose fibres.

In order to promote your product with these trademarks you need to register on Lenzing AG‘s E-Branding-Service platform.

The trademark requires a product licence for product use of the brand name for example the the material composition on your product label. This requires the Lenzing certification number from your fabric manufacturer. A marketing licence is required for non product use for example use of the trademark names on websites.

When describing the fibre in your product, always use the full trademark such as This product contains TENCEL™ Lyocell and include the ™ symbol. Avoid using Tencel as a generic term or without specifying the fibre type.

Under the UK/EU Textile Labelling Regulation, fibre composition must be listed using the approved generic fibre terms like lyocell, viscose or modal. The TENCEL™ brand name can be included as additional licensed information, but not as a replacement for the generic term. Below is some examples of how this would look.

  • %Viscose, LENZING™ ECOVERO™
  • % Modal , TENCEL™
  • % Lyocell, TENCEL™
  • % Viscose (LENZING™ ECOVERO™)
  • % Modal (TENCEL™)
  • % Lyocell (TENCEL™)

In order to promote a product with the trademark, a business will need to hold a valid certification for the material used in that product. If there is a valid fabric certificate, the brand may promote the product by following the instructions outlined in the branding guidelines.

These promoting texts have to be sent to Branding & Licencing Department of Lenzing AG together with the online application of Product Licence and Marketing License.
