UKFT explainer: A QR code is not a Digital Product Passport

There is increasing discussion surrounding Digital Product Passports (DPPs), with businesses being encouraged to start implementing solutions.‍ Here, UKFT's Regulation & Compliance team provides some clarity on the latest situation for UK fashion and textile businesses.

A QR code on a product does not, by itself, mean that the product has a compliant Digital Product Passport.

The DPP is the mechanism through which information required under the applicable EU legislation can be made accessible. What information needs to be provided, and how, will depend on the relevant product specific requirements.

This means that simply adding a QR code, website link or other digital identifier to a product does not automatically mean that the product meets future DPP requirements.

UKFT members can contact the Regulation & Compliance team with questions about the developing requirements and support will be provided to members once the requirements are finalised, adopted and published. Email compliance@ukft.org for more details.
