The mill's patterns and colours are inspired by the picturesque Glenlyon, Scotland's longest glen.The historic Aberfeldy mill has been taken over by the parent company that oversees tweed, tartan and tailoring specialistsStewart Christie & Co. It will continue to operate as a separate business under its renowned name and manufacture its distinctive collection of fabrics for a range of customers including tailors, designers, retail and trade clients, as well as prestigious sporting estates. Its aim is to honour the company's heritage while introducing innovative tweed designs.The mill's building is also undergoing renovations ahead of reopening its doors to the public in Spring 2025 when it will offer guided tours and opportunities for weaving apprenticeships, supporting future generations of Scottish artisans.James Haggart founded the family firm in 1801 and began spinning local wool, weaving cloth and tailoring it into warm clothing. As the business flourished under the leadership of his sons, Peter and James Haggart in 1850, the then self-sufficient mill produced rugged tweeds that gained Royal patronage and served a diverse clientele. The mill held seven different royal warrants over a 100 year period.Today the mill's processes involve twisting and weaving of the yarn, creating fine and hardy tweeds.
