EU Forced Labour Regulation Update

15/07/2025

On 19 November 2024, the EU formally adopted the EU Forced Labour Regulation. This law bans any product made using forced labour, at any stage of production, from being sold within the EU or exported from it.

The regulation entered into force on 13 December 2024 and will become effective and require businesses to implement compliance from 14 December 2027. Within this transition period the EU will develop a central database of high-risk products and regions, which will guide enforcement.

From 14 December 2027, any product linked to forced labour could be banned from entering the EU market. This includes imports, goods produced within the EU, and exports. If a product is investigated and found to involve forced labour, it may be removed from sale or blocked at the border.

The EU plans to launch a public database of high-risk products and regions by 2026. A single portal will provide guidance, tools, and updates. The EU will also offer support for SMEs, including dedicated contact points and training.

As further information develops and guidance is released by the European Commission, UKFT will continue to keep you informed and produce guidance to support with compliance.
