Could you run a textile tour for WOVEN in Kirklees 2025 in June 2025?

17/03/2025

The WOVEN in Kirklees festival is looking for textile mills and workplaces across Kirklees to open your doors and offer bookable tours to the general public. It’s a fantastic way to showcase the fascinating world of textiles and give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the intricacies of textile production.

How it works

Businesses can manage the bookings yourself and promote tours through the WOVEN in Kirklees website. Simply upload your event details via the form provided here: Upload Your Event.

Why participate?

Textile tours have always been a highlight of the WOVEN in Kirklees textile festival, providing an opportunity for the public to learn more about the complex processes involved in creating textile products. In my past experience, these tours have been incredibly well-received and popular, helping attendees understand the journey of a fibre before it becomes part of a finished product.

Successful previous events have included a visit to Brierley Brothers, focused on the fascinating process of turning fibre into a complex coloured yarn. It’s these kinds of experiences that bring the region’s rich textile heritage to life.

Over the years, companies such as Bower Roebuck, Brierley Brothers Ltd, Oxfam Northern Logistics Hub, Camira, Yorkshire Fur Fabrics, and WT Johnsons have opened their doors to showcase their work as part of the WOVEN in Kirklees programme. Organisers said that the response has always been overwhelming, with people eager to learn and engage with the industry.

WOVEN’s Theme: Connecting heritage with innovation

WOVEN in Kirklees is more than just a celebration of textiles – it’s a deep dive into generations of innovators who have shaped and continue to shape the textile industry. The festival highlights the connection between a strong heritage in textile manufacturing and today’s cutting-edge developments in industry, university research, arts and crafts, and the creative expression found within the region’s diverse communities.
