UKFT publishes Green Claims Quick Risk Checker (Sustainability 101)

UKFT has published a new Green Claims Quick Risk Checker as part of its Sustainability 101 series for members. The checker is a practical reference designed to help fashion and textile businesses identify common sustainability claims that may create legal or reputational risk.

It is intended as a first sense-check before publishing website copy, product descriptions, social media posts, packaging, labels or marketing materials. It is not a substitute for legal advice but highlights the types of claims that regulators are increasingly scrutinising.

Each claim has been assigned a risk rating to indicate its potential greenwashing risk. Higher-risk claims should be carefully reviewed before use and, where possible, replaced with specific, accurate and evidence-based language.

It comes as UKFT launched a new sustainability communications review service in response to growing member demand and increasing regulatory focus on green claims.

This service provides members with the opportunity to submit website copy, sustainability reports, marketing materials and product pages for review by the UKFT Sustainability Team. The audit is designed to help businesses identify sustainability claims that may be unclear, unsubstantiated or potentially misleading, while providing practical recommendations to improve accuracy, credibility and compliance.

Each review assesses claims against current green claims guidance and emerging regulatory expectations, helping businesses strengthen both internal understanding and external communications.
