Applications open for China Digital Commerce Trade Mission 2026

UK retail brands (fashion accessories and lifestyle) looking to expand into one of the world's largest ecommerce markets are invited to express their interest in joining the China Digital Commerce Trade Mission, taking place from Monday 23 to Friday 27 November 2026. Delivered by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science & Trade (BIST), the five-day programme is designed to help experienced exporters understand China's distinctive digital retail landscape and build the relationships needed to develop a successful market entry strategy.

China's ecommerce market

China's ecommerce ecosystem is unlike any other, with consumer purchasing driven by social commerce, live streaming, short-form video and integrated digital platforms. For UK brands, understanding how these channels operate is essential to entering the market successfully.

The trade mission combines expert preparation with in-market visits and meetings, giving delegates practical knowledge alongside valuable commercial introductions.

What's involved?

The programme is delivered in two phases to ensure participants arrive in China prepared to engage with key partners and opportunities.

  • Consumer behaviour and purchasing trends
  • Leading ecommerce platforms
  • Cross-border business models
  • Practical guidance for entering the market

Five-day trade mission

The in-market programme will visit Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing, providing direct access to China's leading digital commerce organisations and industry experts.

Highlights include:

  • Headquarters briefings with Alibaba's Tmall Global and JD Worldwide, including introductions to Trading Partners
  • Partner sessions with Douyin and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book)
  • Visits to a live-streaming studio and a bonded warehouse and cross-border fulfilment centre
  • Introductions to content agencies, KOL management studios and cross-border commerce specialists
