EU reaches Provisional Agreement on the new Toy Safety Regulations

25/04/2025

UKFT provides an update on the provisional agreement between the European Parliament and Council that was reached on 10 April 2025 on new EU toy safety regulations aimed at enhancing the protection of children’s health and development. This initiative addresses emerging challenges, including risks associated with digital toys and the increase in online shopping.

What has changed?

  1. Expansion of Prohibited Substances
  2. Comprehensive Safety Assessments
  3. Digital Product Passport (DPP) Obligations
  4. Inclusion of online marketplaces

What will happen next?

  • The provisional agreement now needs to be endorsed and formally approved by both the European Council and European Parliament.
  • The regulation will enter into force 20 days following its publication in the EU Official Journal. Member states and sellers of products to EU consumers will then have 54 months to comply with the provisions.
