UKFT member Y:Patrol, a British menswear brand, introduces its first collection revisiting the iconic Western Desert Shorts worn by British army forces during World War II. Scroll down to find out more.
UKFT member Y:Patrol released its debut collection fully designed and made in the UK for Spring-Summer 2025, focusing on the Western Desert Shorts (WDS Mk1). The British menswear brand chose this military-inspired design to create a heritage-inspired and function-led range.
The WDS Mk 1 shorts are an iconic design based on the original Khaki Drill shorts worn by the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), part of the British army forces, during World War II in the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Middle East. Rooted in military fashion, this limited-edition launch keeps many of the shorts’ iconic features and integrates original World War II Army buttons. The launch collection is limited to 250 shorts per colour way. Y:Patrol also offers a free lifetime mending service.
“Our ambition is for the wearer to stand out and feel confident,” says Graham Clare, Y Patrol’s founder. “To wear something with provenance and purpose — not just another thing you’ll forget by Monday.”
Y:Patrol makes a point to create designs that don’t follow seasons, stepping away from fast forgotten trends. Heritage and history are its centre point, and Graham aimed to create a brand that offers high-quality, long-lasting products with a story to tell. Aligned with this ethos, Y:Patrol’s logo is inspired by the Long Range Desert Group’s badge featuring a Scorpio in a wheel.
Made from 98% cotton twill, Y:Patrol’s WD Mk1 shorts are designed to last. It modernises the original field dressing pocket to make it ready to hold a phone or sunglasses. The shorts include a branded key ring, leaning into everyday utility. To allow for more versatility, they can be worn low or mid-rise.
