Industry support secures seventh Textile Manufacturing Skills Bootcamp

The Textile Centre of Excellence’s Textile Manufacturing Skills Bootcamp will return for a seventh cohort after four organisations with longstanding ties to the textile industry stepped in to support it.

The Weavers’ Company, The Clothworkers’ Company, CAPITB Trust and The Woolmen Charity are backing the programme after government funding became unavailable for this cohort. Their support means the course remains 90% funded, with employers contributing £350 + VAT per delegate.

‍

Developed in partnership with textile manufacturers, the programme takes learners through production from raw fibre to finished material. Its 10 training days, spread across several months, combine technical teaching with visits to working businesses.

‍

Learners explore fibre preparation, yarn production, weaving, dyeing, finishing, nonwovens, sustainability and textile testing. Visits to organisations including British Wool, Wooltex Spinning, Antich & Sons, Camira Fabrics, Abraham Moon and AW Hainsworth allow them to see those processes in practice.

‍

The course is designed for employees who want to understand more of the supply chain beyond their own role, as well as people interested in entering the industry. Previous cohorts have been oversubscribed.

‍

Martin Jenkins, Director of Training at the Textile Centre of Excellence, said: “When government funding was no longer available for this cohort, we did not want to lose a programme that has proved so valuable to our industry. We are hugely grateful to The Weavers’ Company, The Clothworkers’ Company, CAPITB Trust and The Woolmen Charity for stepping in and helping us make Cohort 7 possible.
“Learners meet the people making textiles, see the machinery running and understand how decisions made at one stage affect everything that follows. It gives them an insight they simply cannot get from a classroom alone.”

‍

The Textile Centre of Excellence (TCOE) is an industry-owned, not-for-profit training provider based in Huddersfield. The new cohort has attracted strong interest since its dates were announced.
