The Coût Environnemental label is a new environmental scoring system introduced by the French government to promote transparency and sustainability in the fashion industry. The amended version of theDecree No. 2025-957 was adopted and published on 6 September 2025.The amended decree outlines that the mandatory implementation date for this label from April 2026 has beenremovedand there isno scheduled mandatory implementation datein the newly published Decree. The scheme isvoluntaryand if businesses choose to use the label, it applies only to textile clothing products placed on the French market.From 1 October 2025, brands may choose tovoluntarilydisplay an environmental score for their products. If they do, the score must be:Calculated using Ecobalyse or another tool that complies with the official methodologyDeclared on the French government portalWhile Ecobalyse was and is the recommended tool, other tools may now be used if they align with the methodology outlined in the official regulatory notice.
