What are the Weavers X UKFT bursaries?
Each year, The Worshipful Company of Weavers and UKFT offers five bursaries to talented students. These bursaries provide £1,800 to fund a 12-week internship during the summer break, offering hands-on experience and insight into the textile industry. The internship can support part of a longer industry placement or placement year, or be split across multiple placements with different businesses or organisations.
How to apply:
The application process is simple but competitive, so make sure you showcase your passion and dedication. To apply for this opportunity, please follow the steps outlined below:
Applicants who have pre-arranged internships, lasting a total of 12 weeks with a fashion or textiles employer, are able to apply. Applicants without pre-arranged internships will be matched with an employer by UKFT.
Applications can be made through your course tutors at participating universities. Students are welcome to apply themselves but must provide contact details for their course tutor upon submission.
Prepare your documents:
You’ll need to submit the following documents:
- An up-to-date CV (PDF or Word document, one side of A4).
- An Expression of Interest (PDF or Word document, one side of A4, 200-300 words) explaining why you would be an excellent candidate for the internship. In your statement, be sure to cover the following points:
- What excites you about this opportunity in the textile industry.
- Specific personal attributes you possess, such as organisation, attention to detail and teamwork.
- Your career ambitions and future plans within the industry.
- Why you feel you deserve this bursary.
Please note, a work placement may be located outside of your region. Please confirm in your application if you are willing to travel for the placement.
Submit your application: Applications are open annually from May to the end of June, so be sure to get your materials together and submit them before the deadline. Your course tutor will help you with the final submission process.
