For a new fashion brand, turning an idea into a finished garment can be a steep learning curve. Fashionworks London helps founders through that process, offering design support, tech packs, pattern cutting, sampling, fabric sourcing and low minimum order quantity production.

‍

Founded in 2009 by Katy Cordina, the business has supported more than 100 start-ups. Many of its clients come from outside the fashion industry, so practical guidance is central to its work. Alongside developing their collections, founders learn about garment technology, production decisions and how to prepare a product for market.

Fashionworks London works with a partner factory in north London and UK-based freelance designers and pattern cutters. It also introduces clients to British mills, fabric suppliers and haberdashers, helping them find materials that suit their designs and production needs.

The brands it has supported span several areas of fashion. They include golfwear label Manors Golf, outdoor clothing company Fera, sustainable menswear brand Kenny-Ryder and adaptive fashion brand Intotum. Fashionworks London has also worked with womenswear label Mandarano Studio and Oliya Atelier, whose merino wool jacket uses wool from British supplier Alfred Brown.

“Most of our start-up clients come from other professions with little experience in the clothing business, so we guide them through the initial stages to launch,” says Katy. “It’s amazing how quickly they learn.”

‍

Katy brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the business, including work with Vivienne Westwood and Ben de Lisi and training fashion graduates overseas. Her aim is to help more young people build viable British fashion brands and, in time, create opportunities for others working in the UK industry.
