The International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) has published its Green Book, which brings together information and research on the sustainability characteristics of wool and provides an overview of topics including wool's biogenic carbon, biodegradability, carbon accounting, grazing systems, responsible sourcing, and traceability.
The latest edition, which was launched at IWTO's 95th Congress in June 2026, also includes the Wool Biogenic Carbon LCA research, which explores the role of biogenic carbon within the lifecycle assessment of wool. IWTO has also produced a video summarising the research, which is available here.
The Green Book may be a useful resource for UKFT members working with wool, providing access to the latest research and information compiled by the international wool industry. The Green Book is available from IWTO here.
UKFT will continue to follow developments in this area and keep members informed as the scientific evidence, PEF/LCA methodologies and regulatory approaches relating to wool and biogenic carbon continue to develop.
