Opportunity for young people: Kurt Geiger’s Business by Design Academy expands for third round
01/04/2025
Kurt Geiger has expanded its fully-funded career incubator for young creatives, the Business by Design Academy (BBD) for its third round. Applications are now open for a new cohort of London-based students, increasing the number of places by 50%. For the first time and starting in Autumn 2025, the Academy will become available to young people across the UK rather than just London, through a new digital programme.
BBD was launched by the Kurt Geiger Kindness Foundation in January 2024 to break down barriers for young people – particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds – seeking careers in the creative industries. The free seven-month AQA Unit Award- accredited programme is based at Kurt Geiger’s Farringdon headquarters and covers all student expenses, including support for those with caring responsibilities or financial barriers. The Academy provides weekly masterclasses and training sessions, one-to-one mentorship, and seven weeks’ paid work experience at Kurt Geiger.
This month 33 students will graduate from the Academy, following the success of the first round in 2024 – of which 30% are now in full-time roles at the footwear brand, and the others are progressing into studies or creative careers elsewhere.
Applications for the third cohort of BBD are open until 18 July 2025 for the programme which starts in September 2025. Applications for the online version will open later this year. To apply, you must be aged between 18 and 20 and living in London, or between 18 and 24 or an EHCP or experience of care.
