The UKFT Guide to Rules of Origin for Trading with the EU

UKFT has published a new Guide to Rules of Origin for UK fashion and textile companies trading with the EU. This is available to UKFT members. For more details on membership read more here or contact info@ukft.org
About Rules of Origin
Rules of Origin have always been an important part of Free Trade Deals. The UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) introduces strict new rules of origin. These rules determine whether or not tariffs are payable on import and exports to/from the EU.
The rules will have a very significant impact on the UK fashion and textile industry. Companies should review their supply chains to discover whether a tariff will be payable – this will apply wherever a product does not meet the relevant Rule of Origin.
Where a tariff is payable, it is generally 12% for clothing, 8% for fabrics and 4% for yarns between the UK and the EU. Tariffs can be charged every time a product crosses the UK/EU border if the product does not meet the Rule of Origin.
