Developing new knitwear skills: Drapers’ x UKFT Bursary programme

30/09/2021

Scar Kennedy, a Fashion Design BA student at the University of Salford, is undertaking a three-month internship at AGR Knitwear in London, with support from the Drapers’ x UKFT Bursary programme.

Scar said: “I am learning so much during my internship with AGR knitwear. I was drawn to the brand because of their colourful, punk, fun aesthetic which is changing people’s expectations of knitwear and experimenting with techniques such as tie-dye, felting and Lycra. As a result of my internship I now have an exciting opportunity lined up with Knitwear Lab, an Amsterdam-based knitwear design studio, for when I graduate in June 2022.

“The UKFT X Drapers’ Bursary has allowed me to complete the three-month internship at AGR Knitwear and to develop new skills as an aspiring knitwear designer.”

UKFT and The Drapers’ Company are working together to support fashion and textile students across the UK to achieve good quality internships through the scheme.

Financial support from the Drapers’ Company is available to ten students annually to take up internship opportunities they may otherwise struggle to afford.

UKFT is providing mentoring, guidance, and networking opportunities to each student to ensure their internships are safe, enjoyable and valuable.

The scheme is part of UKFT’s work to increase the industry knowledge and experience of graduates, as well as opening up new routes into the sector.
