Turkey introduces new animal origin labelling requirements
30/07/2025
On 9 April 2025, Turkey’s Ministry of Commerce published new labelling regulations requiring the clear disclosure of animal-derived materials in certain consumer products. These rules came into effect on 9 June 2025.
Products containing any animal-origin components, such as leather, wool, feathers, or fur, must now clearly state the specific animal the material is sourced from. This information must appear on the product label, packaging, or an accompanying document. For online sales, it must also be included in the product description.
All information must be provided in Turkish, and must be clear, legible, and not misleading.
The regulation applies to a wide range of consumer goods, including textiles, footwear, soft home furnishings, apparel, and accessories.
This update is part of Turkey’s efforts to enhance consumer transparency and support ethical sourcing. We recommend reviewing your product lines and updating labelling practices to ensure compliance.
Examples of required disclosures might include:
- “100% sheep wool”
- “Goose feather filling”
- “Cow leather upper”
Labelling requirements vary between countries, and it’s important to ensure that your product labels meet the specific regulations of each market.
