Trade Show News | Germany
20/12/2022
Many changes have been put in place in Germany’s fashion show calendar. The interior textiles show Heimtextil is returning to Frankfurt from the 10th to the 13th of January with over 2200 exhibitors, of which 47 are British-based companies. However, it is an exception as plans to relocate part of the fashion calendar from Berlin to Frankfurt have been reversed.
BERLIN
The trade shows Seek and Premium are returning to BerlinMesse, where Panorama used to take place, from the 17th to the 19th of January. Their rosters include the UK’s Bailey 1922, Ben Sherman, Bluebuck, Gola, Kangol, Oliver Spencer and Ted Baker. Seek is still a trendy unisex casualwear show for clothing, accessories and footwear including sustainable collections. Premium will concentrate on mainstream womenswear brands.
The new FashionTech show for service providers, platforms and innovative solutions, will take place alongside Seek and Premium. This year, the Conscious Club will include presentations from co-founder of FashionRevolution Orsola de Castro and UK design and sustainable ambassador Christopher Raeburn.
Meanwhile, other key fashion cities in Germany such as Dusseldorf and Munich, remain in their pre-covid locations. Whilst the bigger shows take place in Berlin, Dusseldorf and Munich retain a significant part of the German market, especially for womenswear and footwear.
DUSSELDORF & MUNICH
If Dusseldorf has always been the home of Germany’s womenswear business, Munich remains an important market for buyers and agents working in the south.
Igedo’s popular Gallery event has been renamed FashnRooms. It will take place as a showroom, from the 28th to the 30th of January in Areal Böhler, in the heart of the Dusseldorf Fashion District. This season, Neonyt has relocated to Dusseldorf. Considered as Germany’s leading sustainable fashion evet, it has been licensed to the Igedo company by owners FrankfurtMesse. Neonyt will be held at the same dates and location as FashnRooms.
Dusseldorf is also home to Dusseldorf Shoes from 5-7 March.
Supreme Exhibitions have launched five events this season. They will take place in Dusseldorf Fashion District as well as in Munich, which is an important market for luxury womenswear collections. Supreme also offers a childrenswear show early in the season.
UKFT Members who are applying to exhibit at these events can contact paul.alger@ukft.org to receive support and help with their application. Also note that UKFT has contacts for the show organisers.
GRANTS
There are currently no grants available for German fashion shows on the Department for International Trade’s UK Trade Show Programme (UKFTP). However, one-off matched funding ranging between £1,000 and £9,000 may be available to SMEs based in England (apart from London, the East of England and Cornwall) through the DIT Internationalisation Fund – funded through the European Region Development Fund. Funding must be pre-approved by a DIT International Trade Advisor (ITA) and cannot be backdated. Eligibility related to turnover, products and growth potential and availability of funds applies.
To secure a grant through this scheme, you will need to fund part of the costs yourself. For instance, to achieve a grant of £9,000 you must have £18,000 worth of approved expenses. Although, this can vary depending on where your business is based (it could be comprised between 40-50% of the total cost). It may also be possible to use the grant to cover more than one show. Potentially, it could be used on a combination of events taking place before the end of March 2023 in Germany and in other markets.
Grants must be applied for and confirmed before you commit to show.
If you believe you may be eligible for a grant in your region, the deadline for Internationalisation Fund applications is 31 December 2022. Funds are limited, so please contact your local DIT region asap for further details, eligibility criteria and how to apply:
