Meeting with the Trade Remedies Authority

07/05/2025

UK fashion and textile businesses: Are you seeing increased volumes of goods entering the UK market due to shifting tariffs or other trade changes? If so, please let us know so we can raise this at our upcoming meeting with the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA).

The global trading landscape is constantly shifting, bringing both opportunities and challenges for the UK fashion and textile industry. As international markets fluctuate, it’s crucial that UK manufacturers, retailers and brands have strong support to protect their interests.

The TRA defends the UK against unfair trading practices that can harm our domestic industries. Their investigations focus on identifying risks posed by practices such as dumping (where foreign exporters sell goods at prices below market value) and government subsidies that create distortions in competitive markets. Additionally, the TRA monitors sudden surges in imports that may threaten local producers. When evidence of harm is found, they recommend robust trade remedies to the UK government, ensuring that economic interests are safeguarded.

Our discussions with the TRA will focus on understanding how current global shifts are impacting UK markets. We recognise that many UK businesses are experiencing trade distortions, and it’s more important than ever to stay informed and proactive. The TRA has committed to working closely with key sectors across the UK, identifying and assessing potential trade distortion risks. They have assured both the Chancellor and the Secretary of State for Business & Trade of their commitment to recommend measures that keep the UK competitive and resilient.

If you are noticing increased volumes of goods, as a result of shifting tariffs or other trade changes, entering the UK market, please let us know so that we can raise this with the TRA. Early notification can be instrumental in building a case for trade remedies that protect our industries.

UKFT remains committed to supporting UK businesses in navigating these challenges. If you would like more information on how to raise concerns or make a trade remedies application, please get in touch by emailing info@ukft.org
