Member Spotlight: Uskees long lasting, functional clothing
09/08/2021
Uskees offers a range of long lasting, functional clothing, designed for the 21st century. Made to be worn by everyone, and built to last.
The Uskees Story
The founders of Uskees have a background in denim and casual clothing, and for many years had been selling other people’s clothes. During that time, they had seen a change in the general relationship with clothing; a shift to a faster, quicker model built on ever changing trends and cutting of corners. When the time eventually came to make their own range of clothing, they knew that they would want to do something different. That time is now.
From sourcing through to design, Uskees use high quality, organic materials – putting a passion for craft at the centre of everything the brand does. Traditional techniques are shown the respect they deserve, so that lessons of the past can be used to create something for the future. And they offer free repairs and maintenance, to ensure that their products don’t end up on the scrap heap.
Uskees wants to offer a genuine alternative to the outdated notion of fast fashion. Something that makes a difference to their audience, and in turn, the environment. Something that stands up for itself, and makes the right sort of statement.
Enter Uskees…
The brand has put craft at the centre of everything it does, carefully considering each part of the process from sourcing, through design, to manufacture. Each and every component of its products are deliberately chosen, from fabric to buttons, and the packaging that each garment arrives in.
Uskees says: “We’re not perfect, but we’re always trying to improve. We’re certain that fast fashion is our number one enemy, and by choosing our materials consciously, we can make products that are a bit better for the world we live in. We work with suppliers that insist on using *GOTS certified Organic Cotton. This means that all Uskees products are made from fully certified fabrics, offering us and our customers some peace of mind in the process. We also use Corozo buttons made from the Tagua Palm – a tree that grows in the equatorial rainforests of Central America. The nuts of this palm tree are harvested and used as “vegetable ivory” – a truly miraculous natural material. In our quest to create a genuine alternative to disposable fashion, we felt that the Corozo button was the perfect accompaniment to our organic cotton garments. In a world full of plastic, we knew we needed to use something much better for the environment.”
New Zero Waste Collection
Uskees is excited to announce the launch of the new Zero Waste Collection. As the items in this collection are being made from leftover fabric, these garments will be made in strictly limited quantities and will change as different fabrics become available. Items available so far for this range are the popular Smocks in different colours from those in the main collection.
Why we joined UKFT
Paul Clapham, Director of Uskees says; “Initially, we joined UKFT for use of the care labels, but as we look to expand our Uskees brand beyond the UK, the knowledge, experience and support from UKFT is proving invaluable. UKFT do a great job of highlighting the best of British to the rest of the world.”
