Olenka Atelier is an eco-conscious, technologically innovative sampling and production studio specialising in woven garments. Based in North London, the small and highly skilled team of 14 employees give personal attention to every order, whether for one unit or 500. This independent business partners with a variety of premium brands and designers including Ted Baker, Molly Goddard, Raey, Nola, O Pioneer and Petit Pli.

Olenka Atelier produces dresses, blouses, skirts and other soft separates from a range of fabrics including wool, sequins, velvet, chiffon, CDC and organza. It utilises the cutting edge in digital pattern capabilities to reduce waste, shorten production time and save money. Additionally it undergoes an annual SMETA ethical audit to assess suppliers, monitor health and safety for workers, and demonstrate zero tolerance of human rights abuses such as child and forced labour.

Alyona Bounetska, founder and current owner, is a third generation garment manufacturer. Her mother and grandmother worked in clothing factories in Ukraine; her mother later relocated the family to London to start her own business.

“As a smaller company, we’re more flexible because we have fewer set processes. We can adapt to last minute requests and we aren’t limited by complex systems of management and production,” Ms Bounetska explains. “When I oversaw production for a big brand, I preferred European factories because London factories weren’t as innovative or focused on recycling. I wanted to create my own company with sustainability at the forefront, using the newest technology.”

“Our manufacturing is as sustainable as possible, despite how difficult this is when making something new. We recycle textile offcuts, our energy is as green as possible. While the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, Olenka Atelier is committed to ethical and sustainable practices.”

Her late mother’s passion for dressmaking inspired Ms Bounetska to begin Olenka Atelier.

“It doesn’t matter how many times I make the same dress, I always get excited seeing it go from a paper pattern to someone wearing it.”
