19/05/2021
Spring/Summer 2021 sees the launch of LR.D, a new sustainable, contemporary womenswear label.
Designed by founder Lily Rose Dambelli, LR.D was born and grew throughout the global pandemic in 2020. Inspired by the strength of friendship experienced during those monumental times, LR.D is built upon the endless support of patience and sisterhood. The debut collection, ‘Keeping in Good Company’ is aptly entitled with each style named after women who have been influential to LR.D’s first collection.
LR.D is driven first and foremost by the commitment to ethical, sustainable and fully traceable fabrics creating a conscious curation of timeless, versatile styles designed for all occasions. Every piece has been thoughtfully considered and fabrics selected based on their sustainable credentials. Biodegradable GOTS certified organic linen is farmed and spun in Europe. Naia, a cellulose fibre is made from sustainably sourced pine and eucalyptus wood pulp, grown and spun in the US and woven by a Japanese fabric mill.
Dead-stock viscose, another cellulose fibre, is given a new lease of life and utilised across the collection. Buttons are made from Corozo and Mother of Pearl, both natural materials. Corozo, native to Central America is made from the nut of the Tagua palm tree and naturally fall from the tree once ripe. The locals collect and sell the seeds allowing them to make an income and live off the forest produce. Mother of Pearl derives from the shells of molluscs such as oysters and mussels, a bi-product of the Japanese food industry. Normally the shells are discarded however, following a zero-waste ethos, they have been repurposed creating beautiful natural buttons.
Designed and manufactured in London, LR.D celebrates the art and versatility of everyday dressing. Clever designs are seen across dresses and trousers creating two-in-one styles; a midi-length shirred tiered dress unbuttons at the waist to create both a top and skirt and long-length shorts fasten to transform into loose cut trousers. Form-fitting dresses and A-line midi-length skirts feature signature multi-button and loop fastenings that effortlessly take day dressing to evening. Tops feature buttons and ties; a collared wrap top is designed to tie to at the front, side or back and a long-sleeve blouse features a gathered buttoned front and cuffs. A classic shell style is transformed with a deep v-buttoned back. The colour palette is natural in ivory, butter and black with highlights of coffee and terracotta.
Garment labels are made from recycled polyester and swing tags and packaging are made from recycled paper.
The launch collection is available to pre-order in keeping with LR.D’s sustainable credentials.
Retail prices from £280 – £600.
