Member Spotlight: Kalopsia Collective moves to Fife to expand
25/02/2022
Kalopsia Collective, a UKFT member and Scotland-based textiles small batch product manufacturer, focuses on sustainable and ethical apparel and accessories production. The social enterprise has recently moved to Fife to expand and increase efficiency.
Textile artists Adam Robertson and Nina Falk founded Kalopsia Collective in Scotland in 2012.
Today Kalopsia supplies a range of clients from start-ups to luxury brands with high quality, ethical and sustainable accessories and apparel from their standardised product collection ‘Assemble’. Kalopsia has a central philosophy of the importance of recycling cut-offs and scrap materials. Robertson and Falk advocate for the responsible disposable of textiles and are taking steps to reduce fabric waste by creating new product lines with cut-offs.
Kalopsia Collective was established as a social enterprise, as it seeks to be recognised for its skill in a traditional sector, as well as its ethical and sustainable approach to business, which has seen it attract several high-end luxury brands. It has grown steadily in recent years, averaging an increase in turnover of between 30 to 50% year-on-year.
2022
Kalopsia Collective has moved to Fife to expand and increase efficiency.
The 8,000 sq ft premises will open up new opportunities for the social enterprise, including the ability to work with larger clients on bigger scale orders. The team will grow too – initially the hope is to take the number of machinists up to eight, and longer term grow that figure to 23. There are also support roles that will become available as it develops.
