09/09/2022
UKFT member Alice Timmis is a London-based woven and embroidery textile studio offering design, fabric development and manufacturing to fashion brands, interior companies and fine artists. Founded in 2016, the studio works closely with clients to understand and listen to their individual and unique requirements. Clients can buy existing designs and fabrics or collaborate on new and bespoke custom textiles.
Clients of Alice Timmis Studio include Matty Bovan, Sadie Williams, Ashish, Ashley Williams, Richard Malone, Tata Naka, Steventai, Anciela, Toogood and Tsumori Chisato.
Weaving
Alice Timmis has hand looms of various widths. Capabilities include sampling and 150cm full-width fabric production. The studio seeks to be a valuable resource for clients who want to commission bespoke hand-woven cloth, suitable for runway, haute couture, and other artistic projects.
There are no limits in capacity for larger orders and the studio is experienced in industrially weaving fabrics with some of the best quality mills in Italy and the UK. Its mission is to design statement fabrics through a process of handiwork, ensuring quality doesn’t get lost in the later stages of industrial production.
Jacquard fabric
Jacquard fabric is a speciality of the studio. The in-house collection of unique mill-woven jacquards are available to purchase by-the-meter whilst articles in the collection can also be customised. Clients can select existing fabrics and change the colour, yarn, and pattern design of our fabrics. Production minimums are available of just 5 metres, minimising textile waste and investment for high quality sustainable collections.
Embroidery
The studio also designs and produces embroideries, using hand controlled Irish embroidery machines reputable for producing artistic high-quality satin stitch suitable for high-end fashion and interiors.
Designs
Harnessing a versatile and painterly approach to textile techniques allows the creation of one-off statement textiles. Woven embroidered, and mixed technique designs are available to purchase as inspiration and/or to clients who prefer to produce with their own mills and suppliers. A portfolio of 300+ exclusive designs are now available to buy as copyright.
Each design is sold only once, and technical information is provided to aid the development and manufacturing process with mills and suppliers. Alice’s woven and embroidered designs have previously sold to Chanel, Kate Spade, Calvin Klein, Tsumori Chisato, Dedar and Lululemon amongst others.
Sustainability
Alice Timmis has worked closely with manufacturers and suppliers throughout the textile supply chain for 10 years to create unique yarns and fabrics, sometimes with unproven waste materials. Alice works in sustainable R&D for the BFTT and textile recyclers, IINOUIIO.
Collections incorporate sustainable yarns that Alice has carefully researched and worked on and she is keen to promote the use of sustainable materials in design and client’s collections.
