T-Levels
T Levels are a two year technical study programme for 16 to 19 year olds that include a qualification and an industry placement. T Levels will give students the knowledge and practical skills needed to progress into skilled employment at level 3 and above, or higher levels of technical training.
Every student undertaking a T level will be entitled to a high quality, substantial industry placement which will be a mandatory requirement for full certification of the T Level.
What’s Available for Fashion and Textile
Working closely with both the DfE (Department for Education) and IfATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education), UKFT is representative for the fashion and textile industry on the Craft and Design T Level panel to develop and review content.
There are four specialist pathways within the Craft and Design T Level, including:
- Jewellery Maker
- Ceramics Maker
- Furniture Maker
- Textiles and Fashion Maker
The T Level consists of a two year study programme that includes:
- A Technical qualification equivalent to 3 ‘A’ Levels
- A 45-day work placement
- A GCSE in English and Maths (for students who haven’t already achieved Grade 4)
NCFE (Northern College for Further Education) was appointed to be the Awarding Organisation to develop the Technical qualification and UKFT has supported this development as a member of the validation panel.
The Craft and Design T Level will be available for delivery from September 2023
Industry Placements
An industry placement is a high-quality, structured placement with a relevant employer, specifically focussed on developing a defined set of relevant and up to date technical skills and knowledge required for the profession or trade related to their field of study at an appropriate level.
Industry placements are critical to ensuring that young people on predominately classroom-based courses can develop the range of knowledge, skills and behaviours required to enter skilled employment in their field of study.
