UKFT member Seasalt is a B Corp certified, contemporary Cornish clothing brand. Founded in 1981 in Penzance, Seasalt began its journey selling traditional workwear to local farmers, fishermen and artists. Then, inspired by the creative, costal community, it transitioned to a clothing brand, designing its own collections.
Today, Seasalt has grown to be one of Cornwall’s largest employers with over 60 Seasalt shops across the UK and Ireland. Its team is made up of fashion and textile designers, fine artists and illustrators.
Seasalt and Beyond Retro both share the same goal: to give quality fabrics a second chapter. They strive for a more responsible future for the fashion industry.
Designed to reduce textile waste, the Seasalt x Beyond Retro capsule collection consists of three popular Seasalt silhouettes, reimagined for the collaboration. This includes, cropped jeans, a pinafore dress and a workwear jacket. Each piece is made in patchwork denim using pre-loved, post-consumer denim sorted in Beyond Retro’s factory in India, giving the fabric a second life and preventing it from ending up in landfill.
The collaborative collection is part of Seasalt’s newly launched Creative Circularity initiative. This initiative will be pioneering creative ways to improve environmental and social impact, across the products lifecycle.
Using recycled, pre-washed denim that’s already in circulation eliminates the manufacturing and dyeing process normally used for virgin denim. Waste has been minimised through using a precise number of patches for each piece and incorporating existing seams.
Providing customers with a unique garment that will stand the test of time, both in durability and style, Seven Bethell, co-founder of Beyond Retro says:
“We are thrilled to partner with Seasalt on this first collection. A collection that draws on fabrics from the past to create fashion forward cutting-edge designs. The denim industry is set for a major resurgence in 2025, with denim dominating global runways and fashion weeks. So, with this in mind, this exciting collaboration has been getting creative with denim; sifting through an ocean of second-hand materials, they’ve reimagined classic designs in a collection that is unique and perfect for modern life’’
The collection is available online and in selected store, in sizes 8-18. For more information, visit seasaltcornwall.com.
