Have your say: UK Government launches major product safety consultations
02/04/2026
The UK Government has published three new consultations seeking views from industry and other stakeholders on significant updates to the country’s product safety regime as part of a broader effort to modernise and strengthen protections for consumers and businesses. These consultations have been published by the Department for Business and Trade and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).
The first consultation, “Product regulation: the UK’s new product safety framework,” invites views on the development of a modernised and enhanced core product safety regime to replace and streamline parts of the existing framework. The proposals aim to ensure that a broader range of products meet consistent safety expectations, clarify responsibilities across supply chains, and better reflect contemporary risks associated with new technologies and globalised, online markets. This consultation will close on 23 June 2026.
