Garment and sewn product manufacturers across Greater Manchester continue to battle with the shortage of Sewing Machinists that threatens the maintenance and growth of our industry.

Skilled sewing machinist are rare, new trainees are difficult to recruit and retain, there are no external training providers that can deliver the skills needed, and no funding to support direct practical training.

These issues are recognised as critical, and we are continually looking for solutions. To this end UKFT has:

• Developed a Production Sewing Machinist Course focused on quality, performance, and employability (course details here: GM Production Sewing Course)

• Identified funding that will pay for the course via the government Skills Boot Camps scheme

• Teamed up with Salford College who can deliver the course with flexible delivery options

• Planned an intense recruitment campaign to attract candidates

The program is designed to fill real vacancies. There is no obligation to employ candidates. We just need guaranteed interviews for those who have completed the training? You can interview up to three candidates. 

Candidate will be aged 19+. We have 25 places on offer.
