The University of Leeds has launched a new BSc Textile Innovation and Sustainability degree course from 2024 that is designed to fill the major skills gap in textile technology to support the development of the textile industry. The new BSc is a three-year course, with the four-year variant for students to spend one year working in industry as an integral part of their studies.

The three-year course covers core areas in textile science and technology, innovation, and sustainability, as well as a wider variety of topics through optional modules. Compulsory modules include all key aspects of textile technology including:
Sustainable Textile Manufacturing & Industry, Textile Fibres, Sustainable Fashion, Yarn Manufacturing, Knitted Textiles and Processes, Research Methods, Woven Textiles and Processes, Textile Coloration & Finishing, Performance Evaluation & Quality Control, Garment Manufacturing, Nonwoven Products & Processes, Technical Textiles & a Major Research Project.
With the support of UKFT, scholarships and placements funded by industry are being offered to students to attract the most talented candidates on to the new BSc course. It is important to confirm your commitments sooner so we can advertise these to potential students in the recruitment cycle.
Company Sponsorship of Student Scholarships:
Each Scholarship will amount to £6,625 per year for three years of the Programme (not including a year in industry, where one is taken) – total value of each Scholarship over the course of the Programme: £19,875. The amount of scholarship will be split between tuition fees and maintenance grant.

- Due dates for payment of student scholarship cost: 1 July 2025
- Commencement of course: September 2025
