Passenger Clothing is an outdoor clothing brand reshaping the outdoor apparel landscape by combining material innovation with a strong sense of environmental responsibility. At the core of its approach is a commitment to reconnect people with nature, planting a tree for every order sold. Over 2.2 million trees have been planted to date by the brand via partnerships with conservation organisations such as Trees for the Future, Rainforest Trust and One Tree Planted.
Meaningful escapism is at the heart of its women’s, men’s, accessory and outdoor living collections designed for life on the move. Over 74% of its product range is made using recycled or organic materials including organic cotton, recycled polyester and NetPlus, an innovative textile made from recycled fishing nets. “It’s always our aim at Passenger to use more responsible, recycled fabric options,” said Menswear Designer Hannah Jamieson.
Netplus: A UK-first for boardshorts and all-purpose shorts
Passenger launched a UK-first collection of boardshorts and all-purpose shorts using NetPlus, an innovative material developed by Bureo. NetPlus is produced from discarded fishing nets recovered directly from fishing communities before they can damage marine ecosystems.
NetPlus offers the same qualities as virgin plastics, with no compromise on performance and longevity. “When designing our new boardshorts, we wanted to find a fabric that was quick drying, durable, and more sustainable,” said Hannah. “We love what Bureo is doing with turning recycled fishing nets into fabric, so we’re really pleased to be using NetPlus as the main fabric in our boardshorts and all-purpose shorts instead of virgin polyester.”
Passenger has taken conscious steps away from conventional materials to focus on innovative materials whilst maintaining quality and function. “We’ve already done so much to move away from conventional materials, but we’ve got ambitious plans to explore even more innovative materials, measure our footprint, and communicate our impact,” explained Jane Blacklock, Passenger’s Head of ESG.
Focus on repairs with the Re:Roam collection
Passenger’s approach to sustainability goes beyond materials, implementing initiatives to keep clothes away from landfill. With the Re:Roam collection in partnership with the UK-based circular fashion platform Reskinned, the brand gives a new life to damaged Passenger gear.
Photo samples, small runs of leftover stock and returns with minor faults are carefully repaired by Reskinned’ expert menders. The collection reduces waste whilst celebrating the art of visible mending, integrating techniques such as colour blocking and visible stitching.
