Obituary: Jamie Lloyd of Religion Clothing

18/05/2026

UKFT is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jamie Lloyd, a well-known figure in the British casualwear scene, following a long illness. Jamie started out as a retailer in Stroud when he decided his supplier needed organisational help. He soon became a central character of Religion Clothing and later its sister brand, Buddhist Punk.

For over 35 years he travelled the world to promote the brand at numerous key tradeshows and missions, including a number with UKFT in Paris, Berlin and Japan. He spoke fluent French and Spanish and set up agents in so many countries. He set up stores and collaborations with Ibiza Rocks and many others. He also worked as an agent for Gola.

Mark Bloom, founder of Komodo, said: “Jamie was the best guy to find at any trade show if you needed to get something done, find something out or have a good laugh about the show organisers! He was a central part of the collective of British casualwear brands who toured the exhibition halls of Europe loudly and stylishly for the best part of 30 years. He worked hard and partied hard. He will be very much missed by the many friends he made wherever he went.”

UKFT’s Paul Alger said: “Jamie was a key player and visionary in the development of the UK’s independent casualwear brands in the 1990s. He was generous with his time and contacts and helped many smaller companies on their way up. He was a great support to us at UKFT and  a real gentleman.”
