NAW25: Capital City College offers pre-apprenticeship courses via Making for Change
10/02/2025
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, UKFT Education Partner Capital City College explains how the UAL Level 2 and 3 diploma courses in fashion and textiles provide a great pathway into the industry or further study.
Capital City College, formerly known as Westminster Kingsway, is a large further education college in London. The whole group is comprised of 12 centres, but the art/design and fashion provisions are based at Kings Cross and Holloway Road.
At the Kings Cross site, Capital City College runs UAL Level 2 and Level 3 diploma courses in fashion and textiles.
UAL Level 2 diploma is a general course introducing students to the basics of fashion and textile design so perfect for beginners looking to explore the creative world of fashion.
UAL Level 3 diploma is a more intensive two-year programme where students learn garment construction, textile design techniques, photography and styling. Students also develop a portfolio of work alongside practical skills in presentation and communication to prepare them for the next stage of their academic journey.
At Kings Cross, the Level 1 and level 2 courses are offered, in partnership with London College of Fashion and delivered at Poplar Works. Poplar Works is a thriving community fashion hub in east London’s Fashion District. A partnership between London College of Fashion, UAL, Poplar HARCA and The Trampery, it brings together studios for fashion and creative business start-ups, a creative community engagement programme and the Making for Change training and manufacturing initiative.
The Level 1 and 2 courses delivered at Poplar Works helps students to develop the practical and technical skills required by the fashion industry for production roles e.g. Sample Machinist.
