19/12/2024
UKFT has published guides for members, including UK-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement; UK- Australia Free Trade Agreement; and the updated Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
UKFT has updated its guide to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which is exclusively available to members. To access your copy or to find out about membership, please contact info@ukft.org
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) entered into force between the UK and eight other members: Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei on 15 December 2024. Australia will soon follow suit, entering into force on 24 December 2024.
Canada and Mexico have yet to ratify the UK’s accession to CPTPP so the UK will not be able to use provisions with those countries.
This document explains what CPTPP is and how it works and what it will mean for UK fashion and textile companies once the UK has formally acceded to it. It will be revised over time as the UK adapts to life inside this new trade bloc after ratification.
The document outlines:
- The context for fashion and textiles
- What CPTPP is
- The strategic importance for the UK
- Rules of Origin (ROO) and Product Specific Rules (PSR) of CPTPP
- Fashion and textiles ROOs and PSRs
- Statements of Origin
- Date of entry into force
- Duty arrangements under CPTPP from start
- F&T HCC categories included on a 0% duty basis
- F&T HCC categories which will still attract duty/quota
- VAT required on import/export at the border
- Labelling requirements for goods in target country
- Intellectual property issues
- Suggested wording for Certificates of Origin

Helping UK fashion and textile companies to trade overseas
UKFT has produced a series of guides to some of the key export markets for UK fashion and textiles and the latest Free Trade Agreements. We have also produced guides to some of the key import markets for UK fashion brands.
The information set out in these guides provide a basic overview, however, UKFT has much more information and experience of how these markets work.
