Highlights from UK exhibitors at Heimtextil 2020

UK companies will be out in force at Heimtextil, the biggest international trade fair for home and contract textiles taking place in Frankfurt am Main from 7 -10 January 2020. Here are some of the highlights from the UK group, which is co-ordinated by UKFT and supported by the Department for International Trade (DIT)

The new MOON Transitional collection brings together favoured design concepts of both traditional and contemporary furnishings, cleverly amalgamating these two usually diverse interior styles into one concise collection using sustainably sourced wool. Visitors to their stand will be amongst the first to preview Moon’s selection of Moorland IV fabrics as well as over fifty rich new herringbones.

Trendsetter International: “Over the last 12 months at Trendsetter we’ve continued to innovate & launch exciting new product, including the Eco pillow – made from recycled plastic PET bottles. We remain committed to our ethical sourcing & sustainability goals by using only recycled fibres across our fibre-filled ranges, whilst also sourcing all our cotton through the Better Cotton Initiative. Ashley Wilde & KAI (PICTURED ABOVE) move to Hall 8.0: Since its creation in London in 1950, Ashley Wilde has become a global leader in home furnishings. Their move to Hall 8.0 will showcase the company’s growth in design success and export. The 20 in-house-designed Ashley Wilde & KAI collections for international release in January 2020 will be fully displayed on Ashley Wilde’s new stand in Hall 8.0.

SENSATION is a sumptuous flame-retardant knitted velvet with a three-pass blackout coating. EQUILIBRIUM is the latest inherently flame retardant woven full of textured ruggedness. On display will also be 9 new UPHOLSTERY ranges launching in early 2020 – from chunky knits with interesting yarn combinations creating two-tone structures, to elegant and luxurious velvets, and other subtle textures.

Dannells supply professional kits for making lampshades and they produce kits suitable for retailers, wholesalers, workshops and manufacturers. On their stand at Heimtextil visitors will be able to view demonstrations and learn how to create professional lampshades, table lamps, floor lamps, clocks, bins and wall art using their fabric of choice.

Fryett’s Fabrics are based in Manchester – the historic centre of the textile industry – and are proud suppliers of quality fabrics for curtain, blind and upholstery use. “At Heimtextil 2020 we will be launching several new collections of cotton prints, woven jacquards and plain textures all of which are available in cut length and by the roll. Our in-house design team are constantly developing new and innovative designs to inspire our customers around the world. This year we have some very interesting and eye-catching fabrics on show.”

Tassel and Trim: At the show this year, Tassel & Trim will be featuring the Madison Collection of trimmings and tiebacks with 11 designs in eight colourways (all in stock). A showroom folder is available. The range has 3 drop-fringe designs, a wide appliqué braid and an embroidery braid, plus a frizzy ruche with braids and cords to coordinate. A matching 3-strand corded rope tieback and a long elegant single tieback, all in a mixture of matt and lustrous rayon, complete the range. “An essential folder for 2020,” says Clive Ovenden of Tassel & Trim.

BRITISH TEXTILE DESIGN STUDIOS AT HEIMTEXTIL 2020
This year, The Aviary Studio has drawn inspiration from historical Japanese and French textiles, exploring traditional weaving techniques including ikat, Chiné-à-la-branche and Shibori. There is a constant cycle of learning and reworking, whilst maintaining the utmost respect for the craft. The result is fresh, inspired and considered fabric ideas. The collection also includes pattern, texture, colour stories, plaids, stripes, whites and beautiful neutrals. “We are working hard to be as kind to the planet as we can, by upcycling yarns, using plant-based dyes and utilising fibres such as nettle, seacell, pineapple, silk and banana,” states Sarah Podlesny, founder of The Aviary Studio.
