Key industry asks highlighted in House of Lords Creative Industries debate
12/02/2025
The UK House of Lords held a debate on the Creative Industries on 6 February, led by Baroness Glenys Thornton, highlighting the sector’s vital role in job creation and economic growth.
UKFT would like to extend our thanks to Lord Jasset Harlech for championing the industry’s importance and reinforcing some of our key industry asks, including reinstating the tradeshow access programme, increasing R&D funding for SMEs and reforming post-Brexit procurement rules. He also stressed the need for sustainability initiatives like a textile-specific extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme, vocational education reforms and VAT-free shopping to boost industry growth. He said that with strategic government support, the UK fashion sector can continue to thrive, driving innovation and maintaining its status as a global leader in creativity and sustainability.
Thank you also to the British Fashion Council for their support.
