Frugi introduces cardboard hangers to reduce plastic waste

10/08/2020

UKFT member Frugi has introduced cardboard hangers for its baby and childrenswear made using FSC certified 100% recycled materials and 100% recyclable after use in household paper recycling. They are exceptionally strong and hard wearing and have been specifically designed to hold all sizes of Frugi clothing from newborn up to age ten.

The hangers come with reusable metal clips to enable the same hanger to securely hold bottom garments.

Most single-use plastic hangers end up in landfill.  In the UK alone, research suggests that 100 million plastic hangers are discarded each year by customers after one use.

Frugi’s Commercial Director Simon Dowling says, “This is an industry game-changer that will significantly reduce single-use plastic hangers being circulated within the garment industry each year. We really hope other companies follow suit.”

Frugi was established as Cut4Cloth in 2004, when founders Lucy and Kurt struggled to find clothing to fit over their son’s cloth-nappied bum. The company changed its name to Frugi in 2008, which means ‘Fruits of the Earth’ in Latin, and expanded its collection to include clothing for older children and a range of breastfeeding wear for mums. Based in Helston in Cornwall, Frugi has received the ‘Queen’s Award for Enterprise’ and been named The Sunday Times ‘Ones to Watch’ list for the fastest-growing companies.
