Are you ready for the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU 2023/988)?

06/08/2024

From 13 December 2024, whether you targeting* the EU/NI, selling direct to the EU or Northern Ireland, through a marketplace, a retailer, an agent or a distributor, or you have wholesale customers in those markets, the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 will bring new obligations for labelling, product safety and consumer rights for companies of all sizes. UKFT members can request the UKFT Guide to the regulation by emailing info@ukft.org.

DG GROW, The Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, will hold workshops in September/October to gather evidence on the challenges and needs of SMEs and microenterprises in implementing the Regulation. UKFT will be part of these workshops to help develop the practical and tailored guidance to simplify and limit the administrative burdens on these businesses.

*Targeting is defined in the legislation as making goods available to one or more EU member states by any means. Factors such as whether the domain name of the business is registered in the EU, the geographical delivery options of the business ie if delivery to EU member states is an advertised option, providing payment options in the currency of any member state or product and orderingĀ  information available in the languages of any member state can all be interpreted asĀ  targeting.
