Member spotlight: Creation Mill opens its new Textile Centre

17/02/2026

UKFT member, Creation Mill CIC, was founded in November 2021 and is a social enterprise supporting mental health, wellbeing, skills and employment through textiles. By revitalising the textile industry in Langholm and the South of Scotland, it provides training and creative opportunities for all ages, and promotes sustainability through a circular textiles ethos.

In July 2025, it opened its Textile Centre. Since the team first set eyes on the empty warehouse space at Buccleuch Mills in 2021, they knew it would be the perfect blank canvas. A structure was built within the old walls to ensure it was as insulated and watertight as possible while keeping the character of the mill’s exterior. Solar panels and an air source heat pump power and heat the centre, while folding partition walls make it adaptable to its needs. Friends, funders and collaborators were invited to join in celebrating the opening night.

The centre includes a large workshop space with an area for its scrap store, three separate studio rooms, an office space, storage cupboards, a kitchen and toilets.
