Share your views: CMA opens evidence call to refine how merger benefits are evaluated

03/02/2026

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a call for evidence on how it assesses efficiencies created by mergers, such as improved innovation, better products or lower costs. This is part of the CMA’s wider drive to make merger assessments more predictable, proportionate, and growth focused.

The consultation closes on 26 February 2026. The CMA will use feedback to shape more detailed proposals later this year.

This may be relevant to businesses involved in mergers, acquisitions or investment activity, particularly where consolidation could create efficiencies like stronger supply chains, innovation, or cost savings. The CMA is seeking input on how such efficiency benefits should be evidenced and evaluated in merger reviews.
