Located in the Scottish Borders, the circular business offers homecare products alongside recycling services to save garments that are beyond repair from ending up in landfill. “We are witnessing a shift in the fashion industry with an increasing number of luxury brands adding aftercare to their offering,” commented Charlotte Farish, Director at Cashmere Circle.
Cashmere Circle works with leading brands, to extend the lifespan of cashmere products purchased by their customers. Charlotte said:
“Cashmere Circle works in partnership with brands who share their values including Begg x Co, Hewi (Hardly Ever Worn It), Johnstons of Elgin, Chinti & Parker and Connolly. Partners’ customers can ensure this luxury fibre lasts for generations to come through Cashmere Circle’s “repair and revive” service. Garments undergo a full revival, including innovative clean, de-pill and press, before having each hole invisibly mended, using artisan repair techniques before delivering it back in like-new condition.”
“Our goal is to revive, repair and recycle cashmere whilst at the same time preserving these valuable skills and creating textile jobs.” – Charlotte Farish, Director at Cashmere Circle
Founded in 2019, Cashmere Circle brings together cashmere experts, including designers, textile specialists and sustainability experts. Fully dedicated to cashmere care, the company was the runner-up in the fashion category of Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2023. Charlotte said:
“Our goal is to revive, repair and recycle cashmere whilst at the same time preserving these valuable skills and creating textile jobs.”
Invisible mending requires an extended skillset in addition to being time-consuming, explained Charlotte. She continued:
“In the UK there is a severe shortage of qualified menders to meet the demand for the repair of knitted and woven cashmere as mending techniques are highly skilled. This prompted Cashmere Circle to create its own online mender training programme. “Learn to Repair and Revive Knitted Cashmere” teaches the art of invisible mending on knitted garments to repair and revive cashmere to a professional standard. This course has been accredited by UKFT.”
Cashmere Circle’s Mending Programme has been designed for individuals with sewing or knitting experience wishing to repair and revive cashmere to a professional standard. Charlotte said:
“This course is also ideal for anyone who wishes to learn these skills, for their knowledge and pleasure to keep this beautiful, natural fibre in the best possible condition. Once the training programme is completed, students can apply to become a specialist repairer for Cashmere Circle. As the repair revolution picks up, Cashmere Circle is at the forefront of this important movement towards increased sustainability in the fashion and luxury sector.”
