Innovation Exchange Challenge: Optimise the production process of biodegradable sequins
10/09/2024
Clean Colour Ltd, a plant-based fabric embellishment company, is seeking innovative solutions through the Innovation Exchange (iX) programme to enhance the processing of bioplastic film into biodegradable sequins. These sequins, designed to replace traditional fossil-based ones, offer a sustainable option for the fashion industry but face two key challenges: achieving the necessary strength for high-speed die cutting and maintaining the ability to snap off easily during fabric embroidery.
This Innovation Exchange Challenge, funded by Innovate UK, is looking for UK-based innovators that can provide a solution to the challenge of matching sequins onto substrate fabrics at speeds on par with current, fossil-based sequin solutions. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to pitch their solution to Clean Colour and the winning applicant will collaborate with them to solve this challenge and receive up to £25k to work on the project. More information and details can be found here.
Please note academics, RTOs and large companies are not eligible for the funding.
The Challenge
Clean Colour Ltd aims to optimise their biodegradable sequin production process, ensuring it can meet the speed demands of current industrial fabric manufacturing. The challenge focuses on enhancing the strength of sequin joints without compromising their performance during embroidery.
