UKFT maintains apprenticeship provision in all four nations

As Sector Skills Body for fashion and textiles across all four nations, UKFT works closely with the industry on the upkeep and maintenance of apprenticeship provision.

Currently there are 44 apprenticeships available for fashion and textiles, which have been developed alongside employer groups. UKFT monitors delivery costs and content and lobbies for improvement on behalf of our industry. Most recently, UKFT has been carrying out reviews of content, funding and assessment.

Recent activity includes:

In England

  • Reviewed Level 5 Bespoke Cutter & Tailor in England – increased funding band proposed from £15,000 to £17,000
  • Reviewed Level 2 Textile Manufacturing Operative in England – increased funding band proposed from £5,000 to £7,000
  • Currently reviewing Level 2 Sewing Machinist in England – currently £4,000 and aiming for a significant increase in funding

In Scotland

Currently reviewing Modern Apprenticeship Fashion and Textiles Heritage framework at SCQF Level 7 – this is to update the framework to include the newly-accredited SVQ in Leather and Textile Technology Qualification. Expected delivery date September 2023.

Wales & Northern Ireland

Frameworks in these nations will be updated following the withdrawals of vocational qualifications with no starts in four years.
