Education and fashion charity Caramel Rock will hold the first edition of School College Fashion Week in London next month to celebrate the creativity of students within the fashion, art, media, graphics and beauty industries.

The event, held at the ExCel London from 11th – 12th July 2019, will bring schools and colleges together to encourage young people’s creativity and showcase their talent.

UKFT academic member Caramel Rock was founded by Faith Johnson to provide training and job opportunities, focused on empowering young people.

Her vision for School College Fashion Week is to inspire young people to pursue a career in the vibrant creative sector. It will provide a great opportunity for students and young people to gain real advice from a range of different industry speakers about a career in the creative industries.

The event will also have an exhibition, which will display a selection of students’ work, as well as a running catwalk show.

UKFT’s Alice Burkitt will be a judge at the event and CEO Adam Mansell will offer his advice and guidance about the wealth of opportunities for a career in the fashion and textiles industry. The line-up of talks also includes speakers from Fashion Capital, Tuareg Productions, Rosetta Arts, V&A Museum, Fashion Roundtable, Genix Imaging and Texintel. Attendees can develop their skills with numerous workshops such as one-to-one fashion mentoring with British-Nigerian fashion designer Wale Adeyemi MBE, social media workshop with digital communications specialist Digiwoo, creative universities workshops and much more.

The event will be hosted by Eastenders star Bunmi Mojekwu, social entrepreneur and motivational speaker Hannah Oyewole and singer songwriter Inkra Debelle, as well as singer and presenter Maxine Booth.

Schools and academies already signed up include Woodcote High School, Inspire Hair Academy, Makeup London Academy and Applecart Arts.

“School Fashion College Week is a great opportunity for us, for those who want a career in the creative industries and it’s even a great experience for the schools and colleges taking part as they too can attract many interested ones to sign up to their courses,” said Johnson.
