UKFT guide to the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom and India
11/08/2025
UKFT has created a member guide to the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and India.
The UK–India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is the largest and most politically sensitive UK trade deal post-Brexit, significantly impacting the fashion, textile, footwear and accessory sectors.
The treaty, expected to take effect in 2026, provides preferential, duty-free access for eligible goods traded between the UK and India. To qualify for preference, goods must be
- Physically manufactured in either country
- Made using originating materials or non-originating inputs that have undergone sufficient transformation
The Rules of Origin (ROO) and Product Specific Rules (PSRs) under this deal are among the most flexible the UK has agreed to since Brexit.
The guide covers details on:
- The scope of duty-free access (including Most Favoured Nation (MFN) duty rates)
- Rules of Origin
- Documentation and labelling
- Border costs & VAT
