NAW25: The Tailoring Academy offers L5 Bespoke Cutter & Tailor Apprenticeship
11/02/2025
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, UKFT Education Partner The Tailoring Academy explains how a new partnership with the Textile Centre of Excellence will provide a significant boost for tailoring education across England.
The Tailoring Academy, based in Macclesfield, is the only training provider offering the Level 5 Bespoke Cutter & Tailor Apprenticeship in England. The academy is accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education. Its partnership with the West Yorkshire-based Textile Centre of Excellence has received approval from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE), in a significant boost for tailoring education across England.
TCoE’s Director of Training, Martin Jenkins, said: “The partnership between the two established training providers plugs a gap in the apprenticeship provision across England. It widens access to top quality tailoring training in the North of England and will allow more learners to engage in the bespoke skills our sector needs”.
The new apprenticeship will be delivered by a master tailor with 35 years of experience in the sector. The programme will empower apprentices and their employers with a learning approach combining heritage skills delivery with digital technology, to enable learners from locations across the country to access sought-after bespoke tailoring expertise. This innovative approach aims to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, ensuring that apprentices gain practical skills and knowledge necessary for the tailoring industry.
The Tailoring Academy also delivers the Level 5 Diploma in Bespoke Tailoring. Encompassing both the bespoke cutter and bespoke tailor pathways, it offers an industry-acknowledged dual qualification to those who already have previous garment making experience equivalent to Level 3.
