UN call for submissions: Good practices in fashion and textiles
29/01/2025
UNEP and UN-Habitat have opened a call for submissions for good practices focusing on zero waste initiatives.
Do you have a share-worthy business model, method, process or technique that’s making a difference in reducing waste within the fashion and textile sector? If so, fill in this questionnaire and send it to WasteWiseCities@un.org with the subject title “Zero Waste Good Practices in Fashion and Textiles” by 12 February 2025.
This could include, for instance, an upcycling design approach, waste-reducing technology or a repair practice. Successful submissions will demonstrate sustainability, accountability, replicability, scalability, innovation, inclusivity and technology applicability, as well as a focus on minimising environmental impact and promoting circular economy principles.
The call aligns with the upcoming International Day of Zero Waste, which takes place on 30 March and is facilitated by UNEP and UN-Habitat. For 2025, this day will, for the first time, have a thematic focus on fashion and textiles, shedding light on the environmental and social challenges posed by this sector’s linear business model and practices at large, which underpins overproduction and overconsumption as well as exemplifies the solutions that can be scaled up within and replicated to other sectors.
The aim of spotlighting good practices is to inspire global action, foster informed decision-making and encourage a collective commitment to a zero-waste future. Please see further information on the criteria here.
